Welcome to New York City, the city of secrets and lies, or at least to Clary Fray. Several months have passed since the death of Valentine and the end of the war between his army of demons and the Clave-Down World alliance and Clary is starting a new journey in her life to discover who, or what, she is. With Jace, Isabelle, and Alec to help her in her Shadowhunter training, the excitement from the war finally seems to be settling down.
But the battle is far from over.
The Book of White, the ancient and most powerful spell book, has been mysteriously stolen from the elusive Magnus Bane, now the High Warlock of New York. With it, the Down World is being terrorized and they have no one to blame but the Nephilim who promised them peace. Rumors of a revived Jonathan and a newly established Circle have also circulated throughout the Down World, but none too many feel pity for the Clave anymore. And if that isn’t bad enough, controversy within the Clave itself has the Shadowhunters falsely believing in their own political power and rumor has it of a few secret followers of the rumored Jonathan. Are these rumors lies? Will Downworlders and Nephilim be able to set aside their feuds to join in battle once again?
