Her paws aching, tail dragging, and bored beyond belief, Liulfr walks through the long grass in a melancholy state. She'd been out hunting for what must have been at least two hours. The scent of prey surrounded her in this fertile hunting ground. But she was tired of scanning through the bushes, and her feet were tired of wandering on, aimlessly.
Liulfr sighed; she couldn't face her pack without a catch; it's her responsibility as part of the hunting group to help feed the pack, and failing is not an option. She eventually feels her legs give out underneath her and succumbs to weariness. Lying down, she paws at her aching nose and tries to tune out the invisible scents, trying to clear her head to figure out what to do.
Just as she tells herself that the pack wouldn’t mined if she came back with nothing once, her train of though is interrupted by slight movement in the corner of her eye. Just then, a plump brown rabbit sluggishly hauls itself out of its burrow. Liulfr feels her body tense in response to the sight. She lowers herself into a stealthy position to allow near silent movement. She locks her eyes onto the little animal and wets her lips in anticipation. Parting her jaws, the she-wolf pounces forward and makes a beeline to her prey. Liulfr cuts through the wind as her feet push passed the swaying grass. Every fiber of her being alive with the wonderful chaotic feeling that is the thrill of the hunt.
The rabbit, obviously becoming tired from the chase slows and is captured in between the powerful jaws of the hunter. The hunt is quickly at an end with the predator at win.
With the rabbit limp in her jaws and adrenaline coursing through her veins, Liulfr allows herself a victorious smile for her first catch of the day.
Perked up, Liulfr sets out to catch another rabbit with new found enthusiasm. Temporarily stashing her catch in a hollow, she sets out to wait for more unsuspecting pray to pass by.
Not too long after, she sits near the tree where two rabbits are now stored, ready to be delivered to the hungry mouthes of her pack mates. Feeling good, Liulfr decides that she could carry about three rabbits back to the pack, so she sets out once again to catch a third rabbit. As she spots the third rabbit, Liulfr is hit by a random wave of joy and couldn't stop herself from giving a little whimper of happiness. The rabbit heard this and fled. With barely any hesitation, Liulfr runs after it only to stop as the rabbit disappears under a low bunch of brambles.
Motivated by frustration Liulfr frowns and steps back. Leaning down just enough to give power to her legs, she leaps over to bush, determined not to let this one go. The second her feet leave the comforting anchor of the ground, she realizes her mistake. Almost three quarters over the bush, she is suddenly slammed onto her side and sent down a rocky slope. Yelping profusely, Liulfr is assaulted with surfaced roots and hard rocks that impale themselves into her back and sides.
Finally, the momentum lessens and Liulfr is able to shakily roll onto her legs. Struggling for breath, her alarmed eyes dart to the top of the hill where she sees another wolf tumble harshly down. She watches as he quickly spins and digs his claws into the dirt, slowing his fall and allowing for a less than graceful jump back onto level ground.
"What the hell was that for?!" Liulfr yells at the wolf's face. The aches in her body are forgotten as anger streams through her. Not only had she lost track of her prey, but surely enough there would be bruises on her sides, back and even ego. Liulfr was angry and determined to get an answer.
